Black beans are a wonder food! High in protein and fiber, they benefit the bones, heart, and digestive track. They protect against high-cholesterol, obesity, cancer and inflammation.
And this dip happens to be totally addictive! I housed the whole mouth-watering batch for lunch today. I was trying to save some for hubby, but… you snooze, you lose!
This tasty dip is easy to whip up! You may already have all the ingredients in your kitchen. Here’s the low down:
Smoky Black Bean Dip

A tasty dip perfect with crackers, chips, toast, and lettuce wraps.
Ingredients
- 1 garlic clove, peeled – ½ lemon, juiced
- ¼ cup diced red onion
- ¼ cup cilantro
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon water
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
- dash of cayenne
- 1 (15 ounce) can back beans, drained and rinsed garnish:
- 1 scallion, chopped
Directions
- Food process the garlic first, then everything else except the beans.
- Add the black beans last, and process until smooth, about 30 seconds.
- Garnish and serve!
If you’re going for a totally whole foods plant based meal, I really like this dip in romaine or cabbage leaves. Super satisfying while leaving you feeling light and energized!

This dip is also a perfect appetizer for a potluck or party. Sometimes we all need a break from hummus, ya know? This provides a little variety, a lot of flavor, and disappears awfully fast!
